Positivity. It's such a simple word but with so much power behind it. My beautiful wife introduced the word to me when we were first dating and at the time, admittedly, I didn't really understand what she meant. Sure, I knew what the literal definition was and all but I missed the strength and importance of the word. Truth be told, I don't think even know I fully understand the concept but I try to embrace it everyday and send off those good vibes that send shivers across my body and out into the world.
From the day we met the concepot has been an increasinly important part of my day. Initially it was something that my future wife would talk about and I'd absorb her thoughts and honestly not really think about it, just kind of let it percolate within me. But it's since become an important part of my day, something I always have time to stop, reflect on and work to get those vibes out into the world. It's important for me because being positive and having a positive mindset attracts positive things, people and events. I really believe that. Don't think so, stop what you're doing, close your eyes and say or think to yourself that everything's going to be ok and it'll all work out well for you. If you believe those words, odds are you probably felt a stirring there, maybe for even just one second. Later tonight, think back on what happened during your day and you'll see that things did really work out. You may have even had a great day.
So what's this got to do with triathlon, you may be asking. Nothing really..... except everything. Mental strength is an important part of this game I'm learning and being positive is the best offensive strategy I know in that realm so next time your dreading your brick or your run or swim in my case, think about it and how fortunate you are. Tell yourself that workout is going to be great and truly believe it. Find a reason to believe that it will be great and it will be so.
Take a second and feel the quiet power within you, acknowledge its presence and use that power for a positive life. After all, life's too short to focus on the things that subtract from all the positive in the world.
Must be my lucky day!
