It’s inevitable I suppose. I try not to let it happen every week but sometimes, sometimes life just throws a wrench and says nope, not on my watch. Then again, sometimes, like this morning for instance, I look at the factors against doing my workout and think that today’s going to be a long day already, do I really need to wake up at 430am to get my run in or would I be better served by letting it go and crushing tomorrows? Needless to say, tomorrows ride is getting crushed. It was only 4.5 miles this morning on my plan but it just wasn’t going to do me any favours so I said nope and reset my alarm for a better time.

The important part is that I follow through tomorrow and go ride hard for whatever time it is, I think it’s only another 40 or 50 minutes as this is a recovery week for me but still. Life happens and its important to recognize when going through with a workout when there are factors stacked against it would result in negative training or impact the other important aspects of your life. Getting my workouts in is important to me but not at the expense of some things, like my daughter or wife for an example or when I know I have a big day at work and I need to be on top of my game. In the latter I’ll try and work it in afterwards as a stress reliever of sorts but if I know working out beforehand is going to leave me in rough shape for something big, well, things have to make sense right.

And even though I didn’t get out today, I still might if things line up for the evening with my daughter, its important that when you do miss a workout, you have the discipline to go back out the next opportunity and get it done. And actually, I think I might have the opportunity now so I’m off to get those miles in quick before I’m noticed!
